Stoner Set The Fastest Time in Free Practice at Laguna Seca
The Australian rider Casey Stoner (Ducati) set the fastest time in free practice at the Grand Prix of the United States, scoring ninth round of the MotoGP World Championship, where the Spanish Jorge Lorenzo finished second.
Stoner, who dominated for most of the session, set a timer for 1 minute, 21 seconds and 699 cents. The ‘Aussie’ – winner at Laguna Seca in 2007 – showed his love affair with the American track and ran as the main favorite to win the pole position Saturday.
In addition, Stoner noted for his excellent timing, which was in line with the time he got Pedrosa (Honda) last year. The de Castellar del Vallés, ‘polemical’ in 2009 and won the Grand Prize at the time, opted for the set-up and will be this Saturday when they have to improve to stay on the line that marked the last weekend in Germany. Pedrosa sealed the fourth fastest time.
The second place went to Jorge Lorenzo (Yamaha), who along with Stoner became the only two riders able to lower the barrier of minutes and 22 seconds. The Balearic sound World Cup leader, was comfortable in the famous “Corkscrew” and will – without doubt – Stoner who dispute the most privileged position on the grid.
For its part, the third time corresponded to the Italian Andrea Dovizioso (Honda), while compatriot Valentino Rossi (Yamaha) finished in sixth place. ‘Il Dottore’, which is back at Sachsenring after injury showy tibia and fibula, is still in its early adaptation and not force until there is nothing at stake.
The rest of the Spanish in the contest ended far from the best. Aleix Espargaro (Ducati) finished in tenth position, while Hector Barbera (Ducati) finished in thirteenth place despite its good start.
